Daren Cilau contains over 15 sumps which form a key part of the hydrology
of Llangattwg. Ths following is a summary of the major sites:
Terminal Downstream Sump (& Pwll Y Cwm )
The terminal sump of Daren Cilau is a gloomy location - a muddy canal
about 7m wide by 2m high. It provides a 630m dive through to the resurgence
at Pwll-y-Cwm with a maximum depth 24m: Click here for larger Terminal
Sump Profile.

St. David's Sump
St. David's Sump lies 250m upstream of the terminal downstream sump. The
sump issues water from Llangattwg Swallet over 3km to the northwest. Beyond
St. David's Sump lies Psychotronic Strangeways, an extension of over 800m
of passages terminating at the Gloom Room Sump.
Gloom Room Sump
The Gloom Room Sump lies at the westerly, upstream termination of Psychotronic
Strangeways. A funnel shaped muddy chamber leads down to a deep, static,
murky pool of water - a very ominous and gloomy place. After a total dive
of 200m, a large active stream way is reached - The San Agustin Way. The
San Agustin Way leads to two further sumps and terminates with a large
boulder choke very close to the downstream limit of Agen Allwedd .
